Jason A. LaBar has been an attorney in the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office since earning his Pennsylvania Bar License in 2006. In 2019 he accepted a promotion to Deputy Chief Public Defender. In November of 2021 the Monroe County Commissioners appointed him as the Chief Public Defender after 16 years of dedicated service.  

Jason, born and raised a stone’s throw away from Monroe County, in Bangor, received his B.A. in Political Science from Wagner College, New York. He received his J.D. from the Widener School of Law in Delaware.  Jason has been husband to his wife Andrea of 16 years and father of his two children Aubrie, 13, and Lincoln, 10.

The role of the Public Defender is to ensure that the Public Defender’s Office provides zealous advocacy through excellent client-centered legal representation that protects the liberty and constitutional rights of indigent persons accused of crimes. The Public Defender’s Office strives to focus on its clients as a whole, providing better outcomes and bringing about real and lasting change for the community it serves. Jason views public service as a duty and honor and aspires to bring the most competent and effective legal representation to individuals.
