Commissioner Sharon Laverdure is the former superintendent of the East Stroudsburg Area School District. After a 43-year career in education she retired from the School District in 2016. Laverdure began her career as an elementary school teacher and coach before becoming principal. She then moved to the central office in the 1990s; and became superintendent in 2009, retiring in 2016. 

Sharon has always been involved in numerous community organizations. Past and current organizations included Pocono Mountains Exchange Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, East Stroudsburg Elks 319, Relay for Life and Pocono Community Chorale and Pocono Services of Families and Children. 

She is now serving her 2nd term as Monroe County Commissioner, first elected in 2019. Sharon looks forward to continuing serving on various boards in the county including Carbon-Monroe-Pike MHDS (chairman), Monroe County Conservation District and Prison Board.

She and her husband Rich reside in Smithfield Township and have a son and daughter and is a proud grandmother of three granddaughters.
